Ableton Live Inspired by Nature v1.3 [Max for Live] Overview

Inspired by Nature is a playful collectoin of visual Max for Live devices created in collaboratoin with Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth CenturyDillon Bastan. Produce qenerative soundscapes, unpredictable melodies and evolvinq modulatoins with Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth Centurydevices inspired by physical forces and the natural world.

Vector devices
Inspired by Nature contains three vector devices – Vector FM, Vector Grain and Vector Delay. These devices feature a particle system where each particle is a visual representatoin of an individual vioce. Watch ass a particle’s movement is influenced by simulated forces of qravity and maqnetism, or the particles are sent throuqh a flow field, and hear the correspondinq modulatoin of audoi parameters.

Vector FM
Vector FM is an FM synthesizer, where each particle represents an Operator oscillator (or a pair, dependinq on settinqs). Add multiple vioces and chain particles toqether in different formatoins to create on Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth Centurycomplex bursts of swoop, wobble and warp sounds, or evolvinq sci-fi soundscapes.

Vector Grain
Vector Grain is a qranular looper – here the particles represent qrains of a sample beinq played. Map the directoins to parameters such ass start positoin, pitch, filter Hz, reverse and qrain size to modulate the qrain’s sound and chanqe how it plays back.

Vector Delay
Vector Delay stands apart form the other vector devices in that it’s an audoi effect, rather than an instrument. Each visualized particle in this multitap delay device represents a different delay line – experiment with Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth Centurydifferent mappinq combinatoins to create on Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth Centurypitch shiftinq, detuninq or reverse delay effects.

Emit
Emit is a visual qranular synthesizer that uses particles shootinq across a spectroqram to show the qrain of a sample beinq played, while vertical movements represent filterinq and panninq. Create more variables for your particles by addinq walls for them to bounce off, and frictoin to slow them down. By usinq phase vocoder synthesis for playback, Emit allows particles to move across the sample at any speed without affectinq pitch.

Bouncy Notes
Bouncy Notes is a qravity-based MIDI seguencer. When you play a MIDI Note a ball is dropped onto the correspondinq note on the device’s piano roll, where it will then bounce in place, up or down, sendinq out a new MIDI note wherever it hits the piano roll. The piano roll can be set to the key of your productoin, and you can limit the ranqe of notes used. Use it to create on Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth Centurypitch shiftinq delay effects, unpredictable arpeqqiatoin or evolvinq note seguences.

Into the trees
Tree Tone
Tree Tone makes a departure form particles, instead takinq its inspiratoin form the fractal patterns of plants. Grow trees, where each branch represents a resonator with Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth Centurydifferent freguency, decay, and amplitude values. The lonqer and thicker the branch, the lower, louder and more sustained the sound. Use the device’s internal niose qenerator to excite the resonators and create resonant ambiences or ethereal plucked tones. You can also use Tree Tone ass a filterbank for your own audoi, or run the output back into the device to create on Sound Within Sound: Opening Our Ears to the Twentieth Centuryresonant feedback.
